Adobe
Adobe will present the latest and most popular of their
electronic publishing and video offerings in these morning
sessions. Acrobat 6, the only way to securely share information
online, now provides rich multimedia embedding, full-text
searching, electronic stapling, and new file format support
for both import and export. Adobe InDesign, the latest
page layout program, provides rich design and multichannel
output (PDF, XML, HTML, SVG) to provide the best program
when you need to author once, and publish to multiple
formats on-the-fly. Adobe Photoshop Album provides the
best methods to organize your digital and scanned images,
providing instant creation of albums, cards, and most
interestingly, three-dimensional web sites made possible
by Adobe's new 3D web authoring tool, Adobe Atmosphere.
This session, along with the one offered at 10:30, will
bring you up to date on Adobe's latest offerings but also
provide numerous tips and tricks on making the most of
these standard applications and aware of their seamless
integration to one another.

Economic Development Research: Cluster
Analysis
As regions around the country struggle with the implications
of a declining manufacturing sector and structural economic
change in general, industry-cluster analysis has emerged
as one of the hottest tools in economic development research.
An industry cluster is a concentration of industries that
are closely related in terms of goods produced, resources
used, and linkages across production processes. Identifying
and understanding a region's clusters can help direct
economic development efforts in the future. This session
will provide an overview of this important research technique,
along with applications.

Coast

Alberta Charney, The University of Arizona
Beware "Dynamic Scoring" (see
PowerPoint)
An integral component of supply side economics is the
concept that lower tax rates can increase revenues via
higher economic growth rates. "Dynamic scoring"
is the latest phrase associated with attempts to measure
"revenue feedbacks" of changes in tax policy.
In this paper, basic model frameworks are outlined, several
state-specific models are reviewed, and conclusions are
drawn regarding the potential use of these models in tax
policy assessment. |
