Royal Room Economic Development Research: Cluster Analysis
As regions around the country struggle with the implications of a declining manufacturing sector and structural economic change in general, industry-cluster analysis has emerged as one of the hottest tools in economic development research. An industry cluster is a concentration of industries that are closely related in terms of goods produced, resources used, and linkages across production processes. Identifying and understanding a region's clusters can help direct economic development efforts in the future. This session will provide an overview of this important research technique, along with applications.

An integral component of supply side economics is the concept that lower tax rates can increase revenues via higher economic growth rates. "Dynamic scoring" is the latest phrase associated with attempts to measure "revenue feedbacks" of changes in tax policy. In this paper, basic model frameworks are outlined, several state-specific models are reviewed, and conclusions are drawn regarding the potential use of these models in tax policy assessment.
