AUBER Profile: Haas Center for Business Research and Economic Development, The University of West Florida

Located in Pensacola, Florida, and established in 1994, the Haas Center collects, analyzes, and distributes economic data to business, government, media, nonprofit organizations, and individuals. In addition to publishing its quarterly report, Northwest Florida Economy, the center specializes in data analysis for the purposes of industry research, business expansion, tourism, and real estate development, as well as academic studies. Sonny Cushing leads the 10-member team, which combines academic credentials with varied experience, ranging from business analysts to media specialists. Once again, the National Association for Business Economics (NABE) and AUBER cosponsored a spring meeting in Washington, DC. With a good mix of general and concurrent sessions, the March 25 and 26 conference, titled "Economic Policy in Transition," featured policymakers, analysts, and practitioners discussing a wide variety of topics. Our jointly sponsored spring meeting with NABE was wildly successful-one of the best economic policy conferences ever. Bruce Kellison and his committee did a superb job in developing three informative sessions that were of special interest to AUBERites-one session on fiscal stress in states, another on offshore outsourcing, and one on BLS employment measures and wage statistics.
