AUBER 2004: Tucson
|
Historic Pima County Courthouse, Tucson |
AUBER's 58th annual conference, slated for Sunday, October
17 through Tuesday, October 19, in Tucson, Arizona, promises
to offer information-packed sessions and excellent networking
opportunities. The University of Arizona, Arizona State University,
and Northern Arizona University will cohost the conference, "Building
Partnerships for the Future."
Tucson, one of the longest continually inhabited areas in
the Northern Hemisphere, is a blend of Southwestern history,
culture, and scenic beauty. The conference hotel is the new
Marriott University Park, located across from the main gate
of The University of Arizona, in Tucson's historic West University
District. The spirit of the university and the city itself
are integrated into this beautiful, nine-story atrium hotel.
This year's conference will feature economic outlook, GIS,
and federal statistics sessions; skill sessions on WinCati
and how to get the most out of the BLS web site; and successful
center marketing practices. Confirmed speakers include Rosemary
Marcus, U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis and NABE president;
Duncan Meldrum, Air Products & Chemicals, Inc. and former
NABE president; Jack Kleinhenz, Kleinheinz & Associates;
and Joseph Curry, Sawtooth Technologies. See the preliminary
program on pages 6 and 7. Sessions in the planning stages
include ones that feature Adobe, the border economy, REMI,
and the second annual AUBER poster session. The conference
program is still being firmed up, so contact program organizers
Janet Speyrer (jspeyrer@uno.edu),
University of New Orleans, and Rennae Daneshvary
(rennaed@ccmail.nevada.edu),
University of Nevada, Las Vegas, with your ideas, or to chair
or participate in a session.
A trip to the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum promises to be
a conference highlight. Attendees will experience everything
from a walk through a desert cave habitat and underwater viewing
of desert fish, to the area's most complete display of cactus
and succulents.
Don't miss this conference! Watch for program updates and
additional details on the AUBER web site and in upcoming issues
of the newsletter.
