BEA
Statistics Update
On January 27, the Bureau of Economic
Analysis (BEA) released for the first time county estimates
of compensation by industry. Compensation, the sum of
wage and salary disbursements and supplements to wages
and salaries, is a key statistic in the personal income
account. The compensation by industry estimates for
1998-2003 are presented in a new table-CA06, Compensation
of Employees by Industry-that can be accessed interactively
at www.bea.gov/bea/regional/reis/.

The Value of AUBER
Few would dispute how the evolving landscape of higher
education, state fiscal policies, and technology has
affected the operation of bureaus around the country.

Welcome to AUBER!
In Memoriam
Carol Griffen, long-time AUBER member and a former
Coordinator of Information/ Publications Services with
the University of Florida Bureau of Economic and Business
Research, passed away January 18 after a nearly two-year
battle with terminal brain cancer. A memorial service
was held February 13 on the University of Florida's
campus.
Carol volunteered as a presenter at AUBER annual conferences,
and assisted with the planning of numerous AUBER Editor
programs. Her professionalism, friendly disposition,
and willingness to help in any capacity will be sorely
missed.

be hosting or participating in, and submit press releases
that feature work your center has recently completed.
